Dedicated Fishing Safari

Guests may supply their own fishing equipment, or use the equipment supplied on a loss / replacement basis.

Day one

Transfer from Shakawe to Miss Elly. After an introductory briefing and unpacking aboard Miss Elly, a light lunch will be served. Thereafter, anglers will board our tender boat, the “Pink Panther”, and set off upriver with our guide in search of the 17 fish varietals to be found in our waters. Fishing in these waters is carried out on a catch-and-release basis.

Miss Elly will depart from her mooring and follow upstream to a selected cove, where we will overnight to meet up with the fishing folk just before the sun sets.

Welcomed back, guests may refresh and enjoy a hot shower utilising the onboard facilities to be found in the stern of the boat, before joining us for sundowners on the upper deck. Around 8pm sundowners will be followed by a 3-course dinner, prepared on-site for your enjoyment.

Guests may retire at their own discretion to our pre-made up, queen-sized clamshell tents, to be found on the upper deck. These tents are equipped with lighting, as well as a USB port for the charging of mobile phones and/or cameras. (Please note that mobile phone signal will only be available on day one)

Day two

Anglers are woken at first light and welcomed with a hot beverage of their choice, to be enjoyed together with biscuits and rusks.

Refreshments and prepared meals are packed into cooler boxes on the “Pink Panther”, and with the sun just peering over the papyrus reeds, anglers’ board for a full day of fishing together with our knowledgeable guide.

Miss Elly will depart her overnight mooring and cruise downstream to an island near Red Cliff once again, for a sunset rendezvous with the fishing party. Here, there is the option of taking a relaxing evening stroll on the island, followed by drinks around the camp fire while rehashing the day’s adventures. Dinner will be prepared onsite, and once again, served onboard Miss Elly.

Guests may retire at their own discretion, before, or after, a nightcap around the fire.

Day three

The start of a new fishing day will be heralded by the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and tea, and the “Pink Panther” loaded with cooler boxes containing sandwiches and drinks for a morning of angling in some of the coves found in the vicinity of Red Cliff. As per the previous day, Miss Elly will head off, but this time around, to meet up with the fishing party further downstream for a light lunch.

After a period of relaxing, or taking a short nap, the anglers, once again, board the “Pink Panther” to continue seeking great fishing opportunities in and around the areas’ many nooks and crannies.

Miss Elly will also continue onwards to another choice island location, where the end of the day ritual will once again play out. Dining facilities will be set up on land, and a fire lit for a sumptuous dinner barbeque, or braai, as it is called in our neck of the woods. Drinks around the fire will naturally be on hand, to aid in the discussions about “the one that got away”. Then it’s off to bed to enjoy one last night of restful sleep aboard Miss Elly.

Day four

We’ll rely on grunting hippos or the cry of a fish eagle in the early morning to beckon guest to join us at the already rekindled fire and enjoy a hot mug of coffee or tea. There will be a full breakfast on offer, served onboard Miss Elly, after which keen anglers may board the tender boat once more for a final day of fishing.  Our guide will revisit the productive fishing spots previously found as we make our way back upstream.

Lunch will be served on the move onboard Miss Elly, with the “Pink Panther” now in tow. Sit back, relax and enjoy the variety of water birds and wildlife encountered as we make our way through the rivers’ twists and turns, on our way back to our starting point.

We expect to arrive there at around mid-afternoon.
