How to get to Miss Elly?

The boat is based 10 kilometres downriver from Shakawe. Self-drive to Shakawe is possible and no 4×4 required. Driving time is approx. 5 hours. Guests may fly to Shakawe. airstrip and we’ll arrange a road transfer to Miss Elly (approx. 20 mins).

What are the sleeping arrangements?

The clam shell tents are fitted with Queen Size mattresses with a white cotton sheet, pillows and blankets. Two bunk beds in the hull of the boat sleep the skipper and assistant.

Can we bring our children?

The boat is hired as a unit and children over the age of twelve are welcome provided they are happy
to share a tent

What is the maximum number of guests to sleep on the boat?

The boat sleeps 4 people sharing the 2 roof top tents with the skipper and assistant sleeping on the lower deck bunks. On request, we can accommodate a maximum of six guests, where the skipper and assistant will occupy a tent on land.

How much luggage can I bring and where can I store it?

Luggage should be limited to the bare minimum and contained in soft bags, storage space is
available beneath the bunk beds in the hull. There is also storage in easy access “ammo” boxes,
beneath the roof top tents, for smaller clothes and toiletries.

How fast can the boat go?

Maximum speed is 40kph.

Can I keep the fish I catch?

Wouldn’t it be great!  Unfortunately, we practice a catch-and-release where ever possible.  Still, that doesn’t stop a great day of angling.

Can we cater for ourselves?

Guests may participate and assist with catering although limited to one person as the galley is small.
Self-catering options on request. Storage space is limited, hence we’re happy to work with you to
plan a menu to assist with storage of food items

How hot does it get?

October can normally be assessed as the hottest month with temperatures in the 45 degrees Celsius
range. During daylight the boat is normally moving constantly which offers a cooling breeze to the
occupants

What is the best time for the boat excursion?

The boat is available all year.  The rainy season is considered to be from November to April.  The boat is equipped with roll down canvas cover to waterproof the boat and the rooftop tents are waterproof and insect proof. The coolest months are from May to September. The annual fishing season runs from 1st March to 31st December. September and October are considered to be the best months to catch tiger and bream. Birding is best when the summer migrants start to arrive around October to breed here, returning to their home county around April.

What can we see/view from the boat?

Viewing from the upper deck allows guests to see above the papyrus and reeds for ease of spotting
game and birds and makes for an excellent photography spot.

Can we charge our phones?

All electrical appliances are powered by on- board solar panels and batteries, cell phone and camera
charging points are available in the tents and in the hull. An 800 watt inverter is available for
charging lap tops and other 220 volt appliances.

Are we able to fish from the boat?

The boat will accommodate two anglers in the space available however, for serious anglers, an
accompanying tender boat is available, for fishing excursions as an additional option. Please refer to

How do I tip the crew?

On a voluntary basis with whatever amount you feel comfortable.
